why not do a % to both?????and then you have both bases covered??

Roth 401k is better. Taxes are bound to rise in the long-term. Better to pay them off now.

I assume that you accounted for the extra money available by contributing pretax and used it to equalize contributions on an after tax basis.... and then accounted for the reduction in Earned Income and how that affects your AGI, Taxes, & Ultimately your take home pay.... and then adjusted the taxes on retirement distributions to account for deductions.... and then after all of that you came to your conclusion.
If not, your statement is pure conjecture...
