Aetna announced today it is selling its domestic group life and disability businesses for $1.45 billion in cash to Hartford Life and Accident Insurance Co. The deal is expected to close in early November.

This will make The Hartford the second-largest group life and disability insurer with approximately $5 billion in expected earned premium. It also gives #3 health insurer Aetna ability to “enhance its focus on core health insurance business” and may help fund future acquisitions.
