Does anyone know how to get a direct appointment with Allstate as an independent agent?

you cant. They only accept captive agents.

They will appoint IA's but apparently only on rural areas where it wouldn't be viable to put a captive agent

Is Allstate competitive out there? Here there is an IA with them and they are not competitive at all with the good hands.

Yes I go head to head with them on my mortgage brokers. So if you can offer the competition that is taking your business why not.

There is an IA with allstate about 30 miles from me. They are also about 30 miles from the next metro area, and in a town of less than 5000. Basically, you have to be somewhere no one wants to be. If you're willing to commit to such a location...allstate might be the least of your problems, imo. Unless youre just talking a satellite office.
