I did a quick search and didn't see much on this subject.

Is there any benefit to volunteering at my local SHIP office? Besides the 'doing something nice for humanity'. I like all the good feelz and all but is there ever a chance to hand out your business card or anything like that?

Insurance agents are not allowed as volunteers in ship programs.

Edit:
At least that is the case in Kansas.

You can check out the situation for Florida here:

The objective is to prevent exactly what you want to do.

You might be able to volunteer for the Senior Medicare Patrol. I don't know what restrictions that organization may have. In the final analysis I am not sure the effort you would expend on either would be of significant value, or interest, to you if your primary objective is gaining customers rather than helping people with Medicare issues.

One other idea, which I have never pursued, so I do not know if it is a legally allowable possibility or not. (Legality relating to activity restrictions stemming from funding sources.)

Checking with a local Senior Center to see if they have available office space, would allow you to use it during the fall AEP to do drug plan lookups for seniors, and would put a notice about the service in their monthly newsletter.
