Any Negatives for Applying for Medicaid While Also Dependent?

I am working with a woman who only makes about $800/mo SS, who should easily qualify for Medicaid in addition to her Medicare. Her dtr claims her as dependent, which is something like $3,900 tax deduction from fed income taxes. Of course, I mentioned that the Part B premium savings is over $1,200/yr, plus less out of pocket on the other stuff (mother is VERY HEALTHY). Is there anything that I'm leaving out? The dtr thinks that there might be some long term consequences. I turned the dtr on to an elder atty website that implies that the dtr could STILL use the mother as dependent since she STILL easily provides more than 50% of the mothers living expenses and also meets the other criteria. Have any of you come across this?

I'm sure each state differs re Medicaid reimbursement. In that regard the daughter may want to research claiming Mom as a dependent, and prospective expenditures/services provided from Medicaid for her Mother and the daughter's role in the state recovery process.

Hope this helps some.
