Auto Insurance Claim

My car was rear-ended, I filed a complaint with at fault insurance company. Due to my tight schedule, I was unable to get an estimate and they towed my car and deemed totaled(Car is driveable). The value of repairs they quoted is 6500 and car valuation is 9000. Since they have the car now, they won't let me get an estimate, Should I file the claim with my insurance company and so that it gives me a chance to get an estimate? Can I reopen the claim again? I have deep sentimental value and attached to the vehicle.
