BCBS South Carolina - No Smoker/ns Rates?

This is for under 65 individual health. Their online quotes don't even have a check for tobacco use. Do they really not care if you're a smoker or is it hidden later in the app?

Many carriers no longer illustrate smoker rates online. Doesn't mean tobacco users catch a break. Rates are adjusted in underwriting once the app is submitted.

CareFirst BCBS in MD/DC/VA doesn't ask if you're a smoker on the app, so it's possible. Try getting a copy of the app.

No S/NS rate for BCBS SC. That wasn't all that unusual a couple of years ago. Aetna didn't have a S/NS rate either, which was great here in NC.

Some of the health carriers will cut a break on occasional Cigar smoking, it's up to the underwriter. Though I can't find any that will cut a break on dip or chew.

BCBSGA and Aetna did not have tobacco rates at one time. Didn't matter with Aetna because they were too high any way.

Blue was a different story.

Now the std rate up is 20% but can go higher with co-morbidity factors. Add on for tobacco varies and is weighed against other factors but can be as low as 10% and as high as 60%.
