Becoming An Insurance Agent

I am thinking of opening my own agency. I currently have experience in selling State Farm Insurance. Should I stick with State Farm agency if I want to go that route? Should I try a different captive insurance company? I have heard that opening my own Independent Agent is the best thing to do these days. Any advice will help as I am still young and still learning.

In the long run INDY is best I think. How much experience do you have and do you have a financial reserve?

Go indy first and make sure you can prospect and become successful on your own, doing your own marketing, paying your own personal overhead, sorting our your own problems. If you can do that, and if you think what you're doing is scalable, for example, you can teach multiple agents to do what you're doing and be successful, then it would make sense to start your own agency.

Going from captive to immediately starting your own agency sounds a little crazy, take the steps, you'll be glad you did.
