Buying Exclusive Vs Shared Leads..? Feedback?

I am looking for anyone with experience in buying both shared and exclusive leads; what system seems to work better both fiscally and from the consumer perspective? Do exclusive leads truly get fewer phonecalls/sales attempts or at some point does that even matter? Any help/direction you can provide would be great.

A few thing to keep in mind that can happen with some of the exclusive internet leads is that 1. the prospect could have gone to more than one site to get a quote 2. the affiliate who generated the lead for the real time lead vendors could have sold it to more than one vendor (they are not supposed to but some do) and then one of the vendors sells it as an exclusive lead and the other one sells it as a shared lead 3. The real time lead company could be part of a group of real time companies that are owned by the same parent company that may share leads among one another where one of the companies sold it as an exclusive lead and one of the other companies sold it as a shared lead. Also keep in mind that they did not go online to request an insurance agent to call them but went online to get a quote, so if they don't answer the phone and you leave a message, you may or may not hear back from them. Even with that being said they are many agents who do very well working exclusive leads. The leads that are truly exclusive, out of the ones you buy, will definitely be getting fewer calls/sales attempts, in fact they should only be getting calls from you if they have not inquired anywhere else.

When it comes to real time shared leads since they have been sold to multiple agents they get bombarded pretty heavy the first week or two. Due to this some people prefer to either pay the higher price for exclusive leads or buy the leads when they've aged at a lower price. Aged leads are shared leads that were originally sold as real time leads. Some people will buy 1 day old aged leads, others will buy 3-30 day old leads, some buy 31-90 day old leads and some agents prefer to buy them when they are 91+ days old because then they are even cheaper. Every lead type has it's pros and cons.
