California could be 1st state to sell its own prescription drugs

“If Costco can have a Kirkland brand, why can’t California have our own generic brand?” said Democratic Assemblyman Joaquin Arambula, an emergency room doctor from Fresno who chairs the House Budget Subcommittee on Health and Human Services. “I really do think there is quite a bit of merit in having us produce the medications.”

Officials from the two industry associations that represent name brand and generic drugmakers have not responded to requests for comment.

Folks in govt think they know everything.

ERISA was implemented in 1975 as a way to shore up the DB pension market. What happened was the number of companies with DB plans dropped like a rock and the PBGC is practically bankrupt.

They raised taxes on the wealthy only to discover the rich folks pay accountants and lawyers to find loopholes. Or they implement a luxury tax on "yachts" and private jets only to discover rich folks stoppled buying new boats and small airplanes to avoid the taxes.

DC killed the boating industry in FL and just about put private jet companies out of business. Then as quickly as the luxury tax was implemented it went away.

The govt also thought they had a way to "bend the curve on health care costs", lower premiums (make them more "affordable"), while expanding the market anticipating MORE carriers would enter driving down premiums. Instead health care costs continued to rise at an even faster clip, premiums doubled and tripled and now some areas have only 2 or 3 carriers writing business vs 25+

Show me ONE THING the govt has done right. Just one.

California is a strange place.

But there may be a regulatory iceberg in the way of this floating proposal.

The Port of Oakland is among the 10 busiest in the nation, and port officials pointed out Wednesday that safety and security issues at federally regulated facilities would "make residential uses untenable," port spokesman Mike Zampa told the Associated Press.

Left Behind: Homeless Crisis in Oakland
Fox News embarked on an ambitious project to chronicle the toll progressive policies have had on the homeless crisis in five west coast cities: Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Oakland, and Portland, Ore.

“We respect President Kaplan's desire to address homelessness but Port of Oakland docks are designed to work cargo ships, there isn't the infrastructure to berth a cruise ship,” Zampa said.
