Cancer...

I am not a bookmaker, but I do look at the odds. Plenty of stats about uninsured/underinsured young breadwinners who start a GoFund page when one of the breadwinners can't work due to disability (even for a few weeks) or death.

My wife fell late January and will probably not return to work until late April or early May. We will have $6k in OOP medical bills and she will take a 30% hit on her pay once she runs out of sick days.

We can absorb the lost pay and cover the OOP for medical. But a lot of folks, especially the young ones with student loan debt, credit card debt, etc would be in a deeper hole if this happened to them.
Interesting you should mention the odds... Chances during a persons lifetime

Of having a house fire?...... 1 in 1200

Of having to use you car insurance? ...... 1 in 47

Of a female developing cancer? ...... 1 in 3

Of a male developing cancer? ......... 1 in 2

Yet people who declare cancer insurance a bad buy would not dare go without homeowners or auto insurance..
