Hus and wife have OCare plan. Wife is prego and has met moop. Wife gets new job while prego and said job offers a "Free" Bronze version of coverage and a Silver "Premium applies" plan.

Wife due in late Dec early January. Employer plan begins November.

IMO she's screwed. Can't keep Exchange plan due to employer coverage being offered. New plan in Nov means either a $ 5,500 or $ 6,850 bill for the childbirth (Clearly depending on how smooth that goes)

What options do the new parents have?

keeping the current plan would result in a payback of any subsidy for Nov and dec. 60 day sep for birth of child and go to group with jan 1 effective date.

Question, i don't do group ANN, can they do that with the sep for birth?

Could she not waive coverage, take out an individual plan for 2016 receive no subsidy pay full premium and when child is born this would be qualified event and she should be able to enroll on the group plan then

Why can't she do both? Enroll in the group plan and keep her current coverage without the tax credit until the baby is born. After the baby is born, drop the individual coverage.

ding ding ding we have a winner! make sure you notify this person NOT to use her new card provided by her employer until after the 1st of the year.

Only problem if she has baby in January she still might have more out of pocket if there are problems if she only files under the individual plan. If hospital finds out they would coordinate benefits and group would trump individual.
