Hello All...

Unfortunately, I just had a little girl declined for health coverage. She is 6 months old and had to have heart surgury right after she was born. She is 9 months old now, takes no meds, and is not restricted on any of her activity. Does anyone have any advice?

The family lives in Virginia, and everyone was approved at a preferred rate except for the little girl. The husband and wife are self-employeed and need coverage for everyone.

Thanks!
-Mike

How long has it been since they last had coverage? You can get a policy for the H/W and put the kid on a GI plan (NOT CHEAP IN VA) w/ Anthem OR
Set up the family on a small group plan. VA has a look back period of 6 to 12 months for pre-existing conditions and excludes coverage (varies by carrier) but that may be a better option depending on the needs of the clients and affordability.

Many states have a specific plan for children with conditions that do not qualify for health insurance. It is typically not income based and they would need to contact the health department to see if thier state has one. Also have them find the support society for her condition and see if they know how to apply for the state plan. Good luck
