Can anyone confirm whether a child currently covered as a dependent on a group policy can buy an individual ACA compliant policy? The carrier is closed and I don't trust marketplace verbal assurances. They make too much money to qualify for a subsidy anyway.
The family losing coverage due to termination of employment. The parents can afford the premium but one parent has health issues and it would be preferable to have an individual policy with a lower deductible.
Everyone else would have higher out of pockets. The premium is the same whether they are on individual plans or family. Unfortunately, the family plan has twice the out of pocket for the same premium as individual plans.
They may elect Cobra but there is not a good reason to do so especially if they can all buy individual contracts.
