CIGNA HS Has Been Sanctioned by CMS

In AZ Cigna has been a class act and out of all of the lines of business I sell their MAPD is by far my happiest book of business. Haters hate but here they are solid here so hope that they can get the stupid part D fixed.

Agreed. They are good in SOME markets, but truly suck in others! When they introduced the "Telescope" verification system, I thought that it was the proverbial "last straw". But, they still provided more services than other carriers, even though they fell short with Mb Services. At that time, they still serviced brokers with verifying Medicare and Medicaid information WITHOUT the prospect having to be on the phone with us. Then, WITHOUT ANNOUNCEMENT, that service was also gone. They are practically worthless now. CHS also dropped several PCPs without notifying the agents about their diabolical intention, which lost me more customers. I wish that they would just leave the San Antonio market entirely.

In Western Arkansas we have a great plan from CIGNA Healthspring, but unfortunately, many of our doctors, hospitals and clinics are not in network. It is frustrating to say the least. Perhaps this shakeup will make the necessary changes which will appeal to providers.

If the network isn't any good, then a plans design is almost meaningless.

Here in the greater metro Atlanta area, there are over 2,200 PCP's and nearly 10,000 specialists in the network. It also has about 50 hospitals. It has a pretty strong network here.

Wow. Thanks for sharing this RussellTW. Very timely, because I had just accepted an invitation to attend a CIGNA-HealthSpring "Expanding into Illinois!" recruitment meeting, hosted by "Global Premier Benefits", which is some kind of FMO for CIGNA-HealthSpring. After reading your post, I promptly logged back in to the RSVP website and cancelled my attendance. Thanks again!

p.s. It's sad that ObamaCare is unraveling so badly, that I've started reading all the "Check us out!" e-mails that come to my inbox. I used to delete them on sight.
Well Allen they actually cancelled that so you'd have found an empty conf. Rm. The meeting would have covered LIS marketing to create sep's which is being covered by most other carriers if you want to. Just returned from a UHC SEP meeting hosted by Premier.

So if Cigna is now sanctioned and we cannot sell Cigna MAPD's, how does this come into play with the 5 minimum plans you have to sell to maintain your client base etc. If I can't sell their product due to sanctions right now, how am I supposed my 5 sales in?

Shhhhhhhhh!

You just exposed their sinister plot to get rid of all their agents!! :D

One good thing I have to say about them- They INCREASED all of my renewals to $215/yr- current 2016 amount and paid it all at once in a lump sum. The other carriers are content to leave me at the rate of the year in which the contract was written. If they all did this for me, I would have experienced a 10-15% raise on average.

are you folks proactively communicating this with those affected BEFORE they get some letter on it to quell their concerns or worries or just waiting for a call after they get a letter ( if they open it and read it) Most of my folks don't even open mail, not even when I send one with a handwritten address obviously not junk, so contemplating not stepping forward now--not my natural inclination-- and opening a can of worms

A buddy of mine told me that these sanctions will bring the STAR rating down, which I suppose would lead to a "low performance letter" for those markets which would presumably be brought down below a 3.0.
My market currently sits at 3.0. A 2.5 wouldn't be too much of a stretch. I'm calling them next week.

You may have a little challenge with your strategy. The low performance letter will only go out when the rating is below 3 stars for three consecutive years. Also, I believe this SEP to leave a low performing plan can only be handled by contacting Medicare. Agents can't use it.

Pretty sure those are the rules. Someone can check me on this if I don't have it exactly right.
