I received a email the other day from one of the insurance companies I carrie my Med Supp plans with. The purpose of the email was to give me a heads up that a lot of companies are going to be dropping the retirement health benefits in 2009 . Has anyone heard anything about this ?

I think Ford and/or GM did it last year, might have been both.

The problem is that unless you know or have contacts with people losing the benefits, you can't get in the door very well. Large employers usually are the ones offering retiree benefits and they (if last year is an indication) will contract with a single agency to write the supps and MA on the retirees.

They give the retirees the contact information for that agency and 99.9% of them will not seek out another agent.

GM salaried retirees lose their health benefits the end of this year. An agency has been 'annointed' with the pleasure of enrolling them.

I've gotten a lot of them on the internet and hopefully will snare a lot them.

It's been predicted that group insurance will disappear in 20 years.
