What is APPS? I was a medical summary underwriter with EMSI. I had no notice of lay-off. I haven’t been able to get into the system and just learned of this through google.

Sorry to hear that. I believe the person earlier talking about APPS was in regard to APPS being an exam company willing to take the exam orders.
However, as you know, EMSI handled much more than just paramed exams. I believe there were many divisions where EMSI conducted phone interviews for carriers, handled medical records procurement & even handled some underwriting of business for some carriers.
Good luck & sorry to hear of abrupt closing
While I heard about this just prior to the official closing, there was talk of potential options that might have kept them open as an ongoing concern. Obviously a major player as far as presence in the marketplace. It's a shame for the people who worked there. I hope the other players can handle the new business and there is no fallout from this.
