Female Insurance Agents and Brokers

In my anecdotal experience, I have seen that aside from there being far more men than women in the insurance industry; that a bigger % of women agents are captive or do inside sales, as opposed to a smaller % of men. Why do you think it is about the industry, and being independent in the industry in particular, that is so appealing to men, and less so to women?

Of course, this is a generalization, and I am sure that we have men and women here who favor the other type of insurance career, but I am curious to hear if others find that this is the case, and why they thing it is.

This is also interesting. http://www.seattlewomanmagazine.com/aug06-2.htm

Through the years, I am seeing more women in this industry but they're usually in health sales, as opposed to estate planning concepts.

However, annuities are being promoted so much that more women and men are beginning to market them heavily. On the P&C side, it is still male-dominated because of the financial investment needed to buy an agency.
