Getting Started in Oil & Gas Insurance - Need Advice

I am new to the insurance field, but previously worked in the oil & gas field alongside insurance agents. I would like to start my own insurance agency geared towards my oil & gas connections.

Based on my research, it seems that I would have to go through wholesalers or MSA's?

If so -
1. Would they be willing to work with a newbie?
2. Are there any recommended ones to go with?
3. What would the commission look like?

I'm pretty new to the industry as well so have never heard of this. I'd probably make some phone calls to some similar companies in the area. Do a bit of digging and research. Or you could always call some out of the area if you don't want to call your direct competition. The Midland/Odessa area would be a good one. I live in Oregon now but grew up in Midland and moved here from Austin. Sounds like you've got a great idea.
