Oklahoma, realtors, ages 60 and 57, non tobacco, good health. Looking for a cheaper plan, looking for some carrier ideas? They have a bare bones plan, paying about $600/mo now for both husband and wife.

.........And then find an Oklahoma licensed agent on this forum selling HSA plans with $10,000 family deductible vs going with a stripped down plan.

Assuming no health issues and wight is proportionate:

UH One (Golden Rule):

$10,000 deductible 30% co-ins
Co-Pay Select Plan ($35 OV co-pay - 15/35/65 - $500Ded Rx co-pay).
Monthly Premium = $353.05

That's not health insurance, that health re-insurance! If the couple talked about is strained by $600 monthly premiums, think of the strain caused by having to pony up $10,000 on admission to a hospital. You'll do no favors except to yourself by selling that plan!

There are several good Limited Medicals on the market that will adequately cover this couple for a reasonable premium.

It's better to mislead them with a limited benefit policy that will hit them with $100k in hospital charges than be honest and tell them their options, eh? Maybe you can explain what your version of "adequate coverage" is and give some examples of "good Limited Medicals"....

So, they have a $600 premium which they cannot afford.

They want a lower premium than that, yet no insurance carrier will have anything better than a $5,000 deductible at a $600 premium based on their age (and this is assuming their height/weight is proportionate).

BUT, you say they cannot afford an expensive trip to the hospital.

THEN, you say there are "several good LIMITED medicals on the market that will ADEQUATELY cover this couple for a reasonable premium".

If you sold them a LIMITED medical coverage plan, and they went to the hospital, it would likely pay something like $2,000/day benefit. What if they were there for 3 days, and, for instance, underwent knee replacement ($50,000 procedure)??????

I think these people need to get their heads out of the clouds and realize that if you want a plan that pays 100% of your medical costs, you have to pay a higher premium.....period.

Any agent who cannot comprehend that should get out of this business immediately.

The OP said they already had a "bare bones" plan. And that they were looking for a cheaper plan. OBVIOUSLY, they don't expect a Cadillac plan.

So, Mr. Know-it-all, what plan do YOU suggest??? We will await your "professional" opinion.

dgoldenz: He is obviously still a bit wet behind the ears. Taking a test doesn't mean he knows crap about these plans. Just shows he passed a test to get a piece of paper that says he passed a test.

He'll eventually learn that this is a much more complex line of work than his teacher led him to believe. Chances are he works for United American. He is in Texas.
