Help: GA, Changing Jobs, Old Employer Problems, Mini Cobra

Hi,

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm changing jobs (start new one Monday). New company has a 90 day waiting period for benefits. My prior company is small (10 people) so regular Cobra isn't an option. From what I can tell online, Georgia has mini Cobra that may be an option. However, to add to the situation, my prior employer will either be going out of business or will be acquired in the next month. Mini Cobra sounds like it would be great since it's good for remaining of current month and 3 more months, just in time for benefits to start at new company.

So, question is, if I go with the mini Cobra route, what happens if prior employer shuts down in a few weeks? The current health benefits plan is outsourced through another company (Bottoms Group) but the actual plan is with BCBS.

Also, I don't think a non-Hipaa guaranteed individual plan would work due to being overweight.

Thanks in advance.

COBRA is part of the group plan. If the plan goes away, so does COBRA.

Once COBRA goes away you will have an enhanced conversion option from BCBSGA.
