Anyone doing this? It's supposed to be a home free, more or less, from issues if a laptop is stolen. I have encrypted and set double passwords on my phone, so far. Dell techs warn me about encryption, but there are vendors specializing in HIPAA.

Google: encrypt laptop for HIPAA, several vendors pop up. Just starting on this.

If you have ePHI on your device, you have to "exercise reasonable diligence" to make sure that the ePHI is not compromised. Penalties for violations can be up to $100 for each violation even if you've done everything within your power to protect patient information. The penalties are much higher for "willful neglect". I recommend encrypting all mobile devices.

We just use BitLocker on our portable devices. We also ensure that all health information is stored on network drives that are not able to be synced down to an employees computer.
