Hi Liz. And welcome to the Forum!

There are a ton of websites out there with "calculators" that will give you estimates of all sorts. Some are better than others.

AARP actually has one of the better free Retirement Calculators.
AARP Retirement Calculator - Savings Plan, 401K, Pension, Retirement I... - AARP

Vanguard has a decent one as well:

If you want something more in-depth you can try a subscription based software program such as the one from torrid tech (the consumer version): Retirement Planning Software, Financial Planning Software and Retirement Savings Software :: Torrid Technologies

What type of guidance do you receive from the 401k provider?
Who is the plan with?

Liz,

Is this for yourself, or for an article? Since you're listed as a "senior editor", it may be helpful to know so we can tailor any ideas for who it's for.
