How does a vesting contract work?

Does anyone have any expierence negotiating a vesting contract to keep your book of business if you leave an agency? How does the transition work when you leave and what things should I think through on the front end of this agreement with the agency I will be working with?

I doubt there is any bargaining in a vesting schedule. It is to protect the agency. There is definetly no bargaining when you leave.
