How is Multiple Income and Household Members Determined?

When figuring out a subsidy if there are household members non children-young adults living in a household that are filing separate individual tax returns do you combine the income? Or do you calculate there income as a separate household income? What happens also if they are claimed as dependents on the tax return but the dependents also have income they are filing separately? Do you always total the number of household members living in the household regardless of who is filing what?

Thanks great info. but my question is this if two people live in a household together lets say mother and adult child , two brothers living together, a girlfriend and boyfriend . In all these situations they file separate tax returns. What would you put as total members of household 2 or 1?

What determines how many people you put in household ?

Thanks

Household does not mean house. Stop asking these poor people "How many people live with you" and ask instead "how many people do you claim as dependents on your taxes" and you'll never have this issue again. As a bonus, you'll weed out those who don't file and aren't worth your time.
