How many of you in this business made less money the second 12 months than you did the first twelve months? If so do you want to comment on why?

I posted this thread because I wondered if people harvested their warm market and then went into a slow down?

I made more my second year because I had good training on how to prospect and a management team that managed to get me to do the things I knew I needed to do but didn't want to do.

I have watched many do a good job their first year and then go downhill after that until they finally leave the business because they either were not taught how to prospect or they could not make themselves do it. Once their so called warm market was gone so were they.

Yes, fairly easy to answer. You sell your "low hanging fruit" the first year. The second year takes some work. But if you are new, the most important thing is to keep good records, ask for referrals and find your niche. I have been in the biz for 25 years and my father for 40. He always told me to "learn more and more about less and less". In other words, be a super specialist. I struggled to always be "all things to everybody" and try to help everybody's situation. After many years I realized you can't. If you think about the medical profession, a brain surgeon (or whatever the area) make ten to twenty times more than a generalist.
