How to Approach Prospective Clients

I am a new life insurance agent and just wanting to get some tips from some experienced agents on how to approach prospective clients about life insurance....i.e. how to get them interested. Any help would be appreciated.

Some of the more experienced members will be able to help more than I, but in my limited experience (working for a Captive company only selling Life/Cancer/Annuities) it seems very difficult to jump right into talking about Life Insurance with a new prospect.

How often do you discuss dying (or your finances at death for that matter) with someone you just met? I've struck up many conversations by discussing the Health Care situation in Washington and if they are willing to at least talk to me then I ask them who they have their Cancer insurance with. This seems to work better for me anyway.
