Insurance on a short term rental utility trailer

Hi Everyone,

If I wanted to rent someone's trailer for a short period of time, about 5 days, how would I go about getting insurance on it in case of an accident or theft? My current auto insurance only covers liability. I'm having a hard time finding an insurance provider that will cover a trailer on a standalone policy.

Thanks

You should be able to add the trailer to your policy as a listed vehicle for comprehensive and collision even though your own car has only liability.

If your insurance balks, you may want to consider renting a U-Haul trailer where you can buy damage coverage as an option when you rent it.

Or, be willing to fix or replace your friend's trailer out of pocket if something happens to it while you are using it.

Read your policy or ask your agent about a trailer attached to your vehicle. Liability from your car may extend to the trailer. It will not cover theft however
