This can't be right, can it? I've been told that they ONLY accept patients enrolled in their own MAPD, and wont even accept cash? WTF???

I presume you are asking about KP clinics and hospitals. If so, the answer is yes.

No cash.

No original Medicare.

No Medigap.

Are you familiar with the term closed panel HMO?

If not, Google it.

FWIW your information indicates you are in NC. Many years ago we were in Cherokee when our son (about 8 at the time) developed a severe earache. We took him to the reservation clinic and were turned away. As I recall we had to drive to Bryson City for treatment.

White folks can't be treated by Indian doctors.

You should've lied and said you were an Injun like Pocahontas did.

Thanks LD--

What does Kaiser Permanente offer?
Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington Options, Inc., offers 4 of the 12 standardized Medicare Supplement (also called Medigap) plans: Plan A, Plan F, Plan K, and Plan N.

Each plan has different benefits, and you have the freedom to choose your own providers without a referral.

Why choose Kaiser Permanente?
Here are just a few of the reasons why many Medicare enrollees choose — and re-enroll in — our plans

Access to the providers you want to see
Kaiser Permanente Medicare Supplement plans provide access to any physician, specialist, and hospital that accepts Medicare, with no referral needed.
However, Medicare Supplement members cannot receive care at Kaiser Permanente medical offices.

They actually have the balls to put those 2 sentences together in the same paragraph?

And they have the balls to sell a product that their own flagship institution refuses to honor???

This could be even more Twilight Zone than I thought.

Why would they refuse to take what every other Medicare-accepting doctor/institution in the country takes?

How can they get away with it?
