MA dual eligibility - being pitched

Well my father does have a flare for the dramatic so I'll call him today and have him clarify his "it's harder to find a doctor" statement.

I am trying to think of any that I know...off the top of my head I do not know any.

I know there are some that do not take MA plans, and others who do not accept new Medicare patients. A lot of docs are doing just that since Medicare cut the rate.

Well I just got off the phone with him and I really can't talk about health on the board so just to say he had a very hard time getting an appointment with a specialist for a new condition and the only one he could find who could see him anytime soon was over 40 minutes away. He said he never had those kinds of problems with private coverage. No only was the doctor 40 minutes away, but in Baltimore City and the app't was at 7pm.

That sounds more like a doctor not accepting new patients or being booked solid for the next several weeks than doctors who do not take patients who are on Medicare.

I tried to get an appointment with a specialist that my doctor recommended to have my shoulder looked at. I screwed it up playing volleyball. His next available appointment was in seven weeks. It hurt like hell, I didn't want to have to wait that long. Found another doctor.

Doctors are becoming harder and harder to get an appointment with if you are a new patient.

Thanks for checking with him.

Well we all agree we know of, or have heard of, some doctors not accepting Medicare. Which really means they are not limiting themselves to the "assignment" but want the full fee. And supposedly that is "limited" to the Medicare patient.

BTW...did anyone else notice that "limiting charges" is not mentioned in the 2007 Medigap book? Has that been lifted? Because if it has all the more reason to sell med supps with excess charges covered like Plan F or G.

Most of my clients are healthy and haven't needed excess charges.

Is there a doctor shortage? I think more doctors are trained specialists for the better pay and niche and the general practitioner numbers are shrinking.

How did that work out - pitching the doctor? We have new clinics that are part of our Dual network popping up everywhere - lots of people who do not have a dual product going to these clinics. I have thought about marketing here - not sure how to go about that. about 30% of my business is dual.

Yes Rick, how did that meeting go nearly 6 years ago? Can you give us the details?
