Can someone tell me if a custom direct mail piece that is designed, in-house, has to get authorized by whatever entity and have an identifying marketing code placed on it? I know Medicare-related pieces have a lot of compliance requirements but would a regular healthcare piece or life insurance piece need an identifying code - and does some regulatory body have to approve it? Do I just slap my own code for identifying purposes?

For Medicare-related ads, where would that go? I hate only having carrier specific marketing pieces and would love to design something that is more encompassing of what is available in the market.
