Marketing Medicare Advantages

What's the best way to market Medicare Advantage without using leads (and without breaking any Medicare rules)- excluding conducting seminars?
 
Without those two best ways you mentioned, you’re pretty much left with wearing a name tag that says, “ask me about Medicare”.

In all honestly, that will not work. If you can’t buy leads or do seminars you have no other options.
 
I wondered about getting a list of 65 to 75 year old Medicare recipients and approaching them this way: "I am a senior insurance specialist working in your area today- and if you have 15-20 minutes - I would like to review your current health care status- answer any questions you may have about how Medicare works- and make sure you understand all of your options regarding your healthcare." If I get in- I would begin by briefly explaining how Medicare works (including a generic explanation about Part C and some of some of the extra benefits it can provide- and the general premium cost range), answer their questions, and then ask them what type of coverage they currently have. Finally ask if would like for me to give any more detail about products related to MediGap, Part D drug plans or Part C? If they say yes to Part C- I would then do a SOA. This doesn't seem to be violating any Medicare rules.
 
It wouldn't be part of the discussion until after they express interest in more information about Part C- and after they sign a SOA. I would ask "is there anything about what I've said that you would like more information about?" Prior to that -it's just educational information about how Medicare works. If they say "no", I switch to asking about Final Expense, Hospital Indemnity or other products.
 
It’s how I was taught back in Jan ‘09 from ex bankers managers at Great American. Yes. It’s illegal. You can’t generate MAPD or PDP sales from cold calling or even walking up to people.

You really need training. It’s all in AHIP.

If you can’t buy leads and you want to sell mapd, you’re probably going to starve.
 
Trying to think outside the box- I've been trained through AHIP and all the carriers the same as you (passed it all on the first try) - not starving by the way - not trying to break the law - just trying to find a legal way to take care of my clients - don't know all the answers - I am interested in knowing why the approach is in violation of Medicare rules - I realize it may be - that's why I'll bringing it up in this forum.

You don't seem to want to believe that what you hope to do is illegal. Everyone that has responded has said the same thing.

So here's what you do. Go ahead and market the way you wish. If you don't get caught then it's "legal." If you do get caught, you might lose contracts, license, etc.

Believe me, if we could market MA plans this way we all would be doing it. CMS changed the rules because Humana didn't like the competition.

Ok- I see your point. I know a lot agents who market final expense- when they find that the client has no money - they get a SOA and come back the next day and sell a MAPD. The original lead was about FE. Is that legal?

It brings up the issue of "Bait and Switch". However, if the FE is not the real reason you're meeting with them you'll be just fine.
