Potential client with many health issues is currently with med supp plan C with M of Omaha. He is 52 yrs old and rates are getting very expensive. Since he already has a plan, would AARP guaranteed issue apply for a plan C in NC? Does anyone know any other companies that would be good to check out for this person? Thanks

I believe AARP does not accept Medicare disabled individuals, they do not in IA. Try MOO Plan N, currently they are not requiring U/W

AARP will not guarantee issue in NC. Your choices are very limited. I would check with BC/BS of NC. They may have a GI plan. Another alternative may be a Medicare Advantage plan, but that may put hin in a worse position from a cost/health prospective.

What is confusing is that on page 42 of 2010 med policy guidelines it states that NC is one of the listed states that require insurance companies to offer at least one kind of medicgap policy to people with medicare under age 65. This is listed under medigap policies for people under 65 and elilgable for medicare because of a disability or ESRD. On the application, however it looks like they would NOT be eligable.

Plans for individuals under age 65 are available in NC. The hard part is finding one that is guarantee issue. You may want to call the NC DOI. They may be able to point you in the right direction.
