Medicare Advantage dis-enrollment

This is the correct answer. Entitlement always start before anything else. Original Medicare may not have ever paid any claims, but it definitely started first. People who overthink things must have a hard life.

My thoughts exactly. He had to enroll in Medicare before he could enroll in an MAPD. He was thinking in terms of effective dates (he was never covered by OM only).

Some people overanalyze everything.

So Basically, ALL YOU CAN DO in 'Extended Enrollment Period' is to switch back to Orginal Medicare or change plans.

  • YOU CAN'T SIGN UP NEW....Correct?

For the "Extended Enrollment Period" if you mean the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period 1/1 to 3/31, you cannot go from Original Medicare to an MA.

Lets say you are on a MA, and want to switch. Can you do so in that time frame (Jan-March)?

From CMS:
Individuals enrolled in either MA-PD or MA-only plans can switch to:
• MA-PD
• MA-only
• Original Medicare (with or without a stand-alone Part D plan)[/QUOTE

So basically, you CAN switch, but you have to be enrolled. Thanks!
