Medicare, Medicaid in California

So, in California we call Medicaid--> Medi-Cal and this program is available to individuals who are under age 65 with low income, single person $17,609 or less AGI. For someone over age 65 the same income limits apply, but assets are now counted in order to qualify.

Medicare is a federal program available to individuals age 65 or older or individuals who are deemed disabled by Social Security. You also need 40 working quarters to qualify for free Medicare Part A, in 2020 Medicare Part B is $144.60 per month.

Some individuals qualify for both Medicare and Medi-Cal. In California 1/3 of the populations is eligible for Medi-Cal and counting.
