I stand corrected, thanks! Didn't know I could paste it all in here.

Is this really a surprise...? Mutual of Omaha's Plan N was being openly marketed as 'Guarantee Issue'!

No company with competitive rates can sustain that for any significant period of time! It was a great tool to have in the briefcase, and was great while it lasted, but it certainly was only a matter of time before it was taken off of the shelf!

Changing the underwriting is one thing, removing it from the line up is another. And I'll have to admit I don't understand why. Like others have said, make it a fully underwritten plan like all others and it'll be fine.

I just had a older couple issued a plan N for 5/1/11. Based on this news I've already advised them to change that decision to plan D. They were on plan J so they are guaranteed any plan UOO sells in Missouri. N was a great value for them, I got them from a MAPD so they were used to some out of pocket, etc., but with this news it makes me nervous for the plan N market.

Here is my theory.

They KNOW they are getting ready to make their Plan N policyholder mad through rate increases. They see no need to add additional people that can qualify for one of their other plans to the group that is going to be mad. The mad group can't leave unless they go to Medicare Advantage. Just a hunch.

You may be correct.

And like I said, I have more healthy people in UOO's plan N than unhealthy people. Leaving the N book is not an issue for most of mine anyway. Of course I'm one agent in one state.

I'm glad its gone and I'm glad I didn't write anyone on it, it never made much sense to me to put anyone on this.
