New Law: Hospitals Must Post Pricing Info Online

This was just made a law, and will take effect in the year 2019. This is a HUGE step forward in the right direction - to alleviate bloat and inflation within the medical field (not to mention promote competition).

Hospitals may soon have to post prices for patients online

Hospitals may soon have to post their standard prices for patients online, under a proposed rule unveiled Tuesday by the Trump administration.
Also, the administration is seeking comments on how to stop so-called surprise billing -- when patients are charged after unknowingly being seen by out-of-network providers -- and how to give patients better information about the out-of-pocket costs they will face.

I don't think so. As of 4/24/18 it was a "proposed" rule was "issued for comment" by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). "Comments to the Proposed Rule will be accepted until June 25, 2018 at 5:00 PM."

Would you care to cite a source that confirms that "this was just made law."
Even if made law you need to gather all the procedure codes right.

"The Trump administration plans to require that hospitals post their standard charges online and update the information, with the intent that price transparency will allow consumers to shop around."

Trump wants hospitals to post their prices online. There’s just one problem

"Today, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) proposed changes to empower patients through better access to hospital price information, improve patients’ access to their electronic health records, and make it easier for providers to spend time with their patients. The proposed rule issued today proposes updates to Medicare payment policies and rates under the Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) and the Long-Term Care Hospital (LTCH) Prospective Payment System (PPS)."

When's the last time CMS proposed a new rule and it didn't pass?

Hospital prices are meaningless, whether posted online or not. No one ever pays retail, even those without insurance and/or money.

If balance business is prohibited expect premiums and OOP to increase. This move would be a great pairing with Obamacare that was supposed to lower premiums and the cost of health care.

Unfortunately they say this will affect most Medicare beneficiaries, but would love to see this go mainstream with before and AFTER insurance prices. Transparency is a great impetus to drive competition imo..
