As I understand it, if your doc accepts Medicare and he performs a procedure that is not covered by Medicare, he is prohibited from billing you for that procedure.

Yes or no?

If the procedure is not covered by Medicare. The doctor must notify the patient and have them sign something acknowledging that Medicare does not cover the procedure. If the doctor does not mention it they should not be able to bill for it.

Must notify. So that IS a requirement, correct?

Is the notification a written one or verbal?

I am asking these questions to learn. If we get a "public health insurance plan" as a gift from Washington I assume it will follow the same requirements as Medicare & Medicaid. I need to know these things.

If the doctor does not mention it they should not be able to bill for it.

Is that an opinion or the law?
