Agent in a competitive situation. Has a live, valid prospect. The person is ready buy. But then it happens.

The agent failed to properly qualify their prospect, and the following happened.

Agent on sales call with prospect that may fall under GI rules. Agent knows some carriers pay full comp while others pay a significantly reduced comp or nothing at all.

Agent pauses, in front of client, and calls their upline.

"Which carriers pay me the most on a GI situation?".

Will the agent make the sale?

Not by asking that question in front of the client.

Should've just trusted that the upline would help the agent to make money and make a sale.

And if the agent doesn't make a profitable sale... call it the price to pay for being unprepared, but at least the client will be helped.

It's situations like these where I would be asking:

"Are you an independent agent... or a dependent agent?"

And you never talk about compensation within earshot of a client - no matter how high or low it is... you just never do that.

Stupid is as stupid does.

Seasoned agents (should know) the premise of this thread is dumb. But I have witnessed this first hand ............... and just shake my head.

And seasoned agents are the ones that surprised me.
