have a client who's husband is age 66. He has VA. never signed up for Pt B.

If he were to sign up for Pt B next year, would he get a penalty? Or does VA count as credible coverage?

I dint know if the same would apply to part B. However I had a guy on AARP supp, He was receiving bills on Pre Ex. I called and they told me his VA would count as Credible cov, I had to get letter from VA and AARP back Paid the bills

VA is not creditable coverage to avoid a Part B penalty. It is creditable coverage to avoid a Part D penalty, however.

Veterans aren't immune to the Part B penalty (but they should be.) The part D penalty is 1% of the national avg prem for a drug plan ($33.14). Not a biggie but can add up over 10 years (40 more a month). The Part B penalty is 10% of the monthly premium for every year they didn't have Part B when first eligible. It adds up to be a quite a bit if has been on medicare for a while without it.
