PDP Drug Formulary Shift

The drug prices are based on 3 contracts, in a triangle. At each point is the drug manufacturer, then the pharmacy, then the PBM.

The prices are all over the map. What costs $10 at CVS, may cost $18 at Walgreens.

So generic statements on what X drug costs in 2016 compared to 2017 is irrelevant.

If you cross the street, do you get a better deal? If you switch to Humana?

Its SilverScript, so the best price is at CVS.

And the 2017 info is based on the 2016 pharmacy.

Prime Therapeutics (most of the Blues) cut a MASSIVE deal with Walgreens for 2017. But if I ran the same drug on Prime in 2016, CVS and Walmart would be the least expensive and Walgreens will be the least expensive next year.

No wonder people are confused.
