Questions on starting a new MGA

By MGA (Managing General Agent), I mean a company that designs its own life insurance policies and underwriting process but is backed by a larger, well-established insurance carrier that will handle the claims process. An example would be Ladder Life.

Sorry for the confusion, is this not a typical use of MGA?
For a lot of us, MGA normally refers to part of an insurance hierarchy that recruits other agencies (general agencies) or individual producers to write business under them. They can report directly to a carrier or to a larger group such as an NMO or IMO (national marketing organization or independent marketing organization) and may distribute several carriers' products.

Call the carriers that interest you and ask them these questions. Ask who the brokerage wholesaler is for your region and they can point you in the right direction. Start with the sales people since they will smell $$$.

You probably won't get many answers to your questions here since we're mostly independent (working with many carriers) on the retail side.
