Quick question, I am expanding a bit with software and companies I represent especially on the life side. In short, I don't want to save a ton of quoting and carrier software programs on my laptop. I was thinking of purchasing either a small 4g flash drive or even an external hard drive to save at least most of the software on, my question is, has any one else used this method. I know it is not a huge investment especially the small flash drives but thought I would ask before I ran to office max and bought one or the other. It is not that I don't have the memory on my laptop to handle it, I just don't really want to put it all on there if I don't have to.

Matt:

I use Compulife for all my term quotes. Costs somewhere under $200 a year. In fact, they have a program with fewer bells and whistles for about $99 annually. There is no other software you need to carry. In fact, it runs off my pda - I don't even carry my laptop.

If you can get on the internet on your laptop, there are many GAs with quote engines on their website.

I don't know the specifics about the software you are going to use, but in most cases, the quoting software needs to be installed. You would have to do an install on both pc's, pointing them both to the flashdrive as the place to install to, and hope the double install doesn't cause a crash.

I do have some quoting software that I have the software installed on the harddrive of both pc's, and then have it point to a data file that is on the flash drive. This allows me to move back and forth pretty easily. Not near as convenient as I would hope though, since the data file is always in the wrong spot.

Thanks for the help, and yes Al maybe you should get in on this since you seem to be the most computer intelligent agent here. Rick, thanks for the compulife advice I actually am on their free trial right now. I was referring more to carrier software for some UL quotes, as well as programs like compulife for term quotes, and a health quoting system. And sorry for the duplicate post guys, I edited my original post and somehow it posted twice, oh well it gets my post count up at least
