As discussed ad naseum, many of us believe thaat the eventual fallback position will be guaranteed issue. Single payer, mandate, public option. All of those are simply bargaining chips to try for if you have the support but to take off the table if you dont. GI will also fly with the republicans because they can argue that they were successful in keeping the system in the private sector, even if mangled somewhat.

Not surprisingly, those of us who belong to that school of thought read the link article and continue to think that that is where we are headed. Mandate is coming though. Just not right out of the starting gate. Not too far off though, methinks.

Are they keeping other benefit plumpers from the House? Such as birth to 21 coverage, maternity on all policies, paying mid-wives the same as OB's, mental health parity?

And how about that non-profit co-op? Do they really think that will save money? Hah!

Are they keeping the Medicaid expansion that will bankrupt the states? Oh wait. CA is already there and almost every other state is looking for ways to cut back on Medicaid eligibility just to keep the plan afloat. And let's not overlook the Obama infusion of cash to expand SCHIP.

This is just more proof the folks in the Senate are not any smarter than the ones in the House.

If the government is paying, it will probably be a flat enrollment fee, not a percentage.
