When I started my real estate business back in the late 90's I did it going door to door to door to door ... and in the poor weather or when it was dark early, I'd hit the phones. Those old heavy Haines directories were my best friend. I think I paid like $200 for them or something back then for my home county and it was the best investment I ever made (those books AND the thousands of hours of prospecting).
I actually did finally look up "saturation mailing" and figured out what the OP's dilemma was and I immediately thought "I wonder if those old cross directories still exist?"
I remember those, but I can't remember what they were called.
No turkey jerky(or turkey bacon)for me. I want the real stuff.
It was probably the Polk Directory you are thinking about.

The Polk City Directory was the one I used. Even for small towns it was fairly expensive. Probably about 400-500 in today's dollars .
Yes it was! If I'm not mistaken, it was somewhere around $250-$300 back in 1992.
