Selling Home Owners Door to Door

Thanks in advance for the advice. I have really appreciated the help and advice I have received on here in the past.

I am new to the business. I am specializing in primary commercial P&C.

However, I want to try to get some personal lines accounts going. Homeowners, auto, life and cross sell.

I have heard some people say they had some success with "door to door" sales. Any advice on this front? I was thinking of going out in a large neighboorhood this Saturday and giving it a try.

I have a friend that is a financial advisor with Edward Jones who "walks his neighborhood" of about 400 houses every month. He hated it when he first started but swears by it after 3 years. He said you have to be extremely thick skinned because a lot (most) people really do not like people coming to their door and disturbing them but over time they warm up and you get business. You need to do it consistently or not at all.

I've done it in the past with great success. But like most things, you have to do it consistently and with strategy. Not just walking and talking.
