Starting an Independent Agency in NC

So I have been working for major banks in NY selling life insurance, annuities and investment and have moved to NC. I am insurance, series 7 and 63 licensed and wanted to become an independent agent. I dont want to be locked up with only Allstate or State farm. Can anyone advise as to where to start if I wanted to perhaps work from home and become an agent?
