I've been lurking for a couple of weeks. Starting with MM as soon as approved and the license processes. Thanks for all the great information. Passed LHA state test last week.

Former divorce and bankruptcy attorney. Worked on project 200. Coming up with 200 solid local names is harder than I thought even with 80 attorneys or so who I've had more than bare bones interactions with.

I'd like to cold prospect alot at first to get in the groove and I think long term it's obviously a great skill to have. The office isn't really big on it except for cold walking businesses. But they'll let me do it.

I was thinking of door knocking residences (especially in the small town I'm from 60 miles away, my family had a business there). with something like

"Hi, my name is Jim Bob, I'm with MM and I'm looking to establish a business in the area helping people find solutions to ensure they don't have to deal with a financial catastrophe at the same time as a personal one. "

and go from there.

I'd really like to get the 5 and 2500 from cold contacts mainly just for verification that you can sell insurance to anyone. Also that way I can be fully licensed before approaching the warm circle. They won't let you take the 7 before you do the project. (I had one before law school so they're letting me take the 7 instead of 6).

I'm not sure which agency you're starting with but I know at mine we have some great specialists that work with attorneys and CPA's to provide value added service to their existing client base. I would encourage you to reach out to them for guidance and joint work opportunities. You won't know everything in the beginning, but the seasoned professionals already have a great reputation and can help you build your skills. If you are already respected in your previous field, leverage that and partner with those with the skills you seek. Why make it harder than is necessary? :) Work smarter, not harder and learn from other people's mistakes. I wish you lots of success.

I would suggest buying a "list" so you can focus in on who you want to market to rather than a shotgun approach. plus it saves you a bit of windshield time and gas money. just my 2 cents!
