Is there anywhere to get some advanced training in surety besides through the NASBP? Do the carriers offer this training? I know that insurance carriers do (ie Hartford). Thanks!

Some carriers will offer limited training on surety bonds but it really depends on which portion of the market you're trying to enter. Commercial surety is the big thing these days because of the recent contraction in the contract surety market. However, contract surety is starting to make a comeback as carriers begin to ease their requirements in effort to generate premium. I would recommend doing as much online research as you can and then approaching your current carriers to determine their appetite. They will give you the tools to sell their products and then all you have to do is start making the calls.

Thanks for the info...starting a new agency and have questions about how to turn around bonds!
