Technical Question... One Owner, Many Businesses

I tried to search this as I think its been addressed but...
One owner of 4 separate unrelated businesses with 4 separate tax returns, de-6, payrolls, etc
Each has 20 ft ee's or 80 total.
Is this considered over 50 or under 50?
 
This is indeed quite technical, and should be referred to an attorney or CPA. Too many controlled groups try to act like they are not actually a controlled group, and try to get the agent to issue the determination.... This warning is brought to you by the letters E & O....

Oops. While I'm at it, let me mention that a group can be large and small at the same time. They may be large for the purposes of having more than 50 employees, yet small in that each division might buy its own group plan. This is particularly important if one of the smaller groups has a grandfathered plan.
